We are THRILLED to be welcoming one of Canada’s foremost queer activists and scholars to St. John’s next week for two very special events!
Gary Kinsman (he/they) is a longtime activist/organizer in queer liberation, anti-racist, anti-poverty, AIDS and anti-capitalist movements. He lived in St. John’s in the early 1990s and was a key activist with Gays and Lesbians Together (GALT) and the Newfoundland AIDS Association.
Join us on Thursday, October 17 from 5-7pm in the Breezeway Bar at Memorial University, for the official St. John’s launch of The Regulation of Desire (3rd Edition), featuring Gary Kinsman along with local author and journalist Rhea Rollmann (A Queer History of Newfoundland, Engen Books 2023).
Copies of the book will be available for sale thanks to Downtown Comics – NL’s radical indie bookstore! The third edition of this revolutionary text includes new chapters and an introduction that contextualizes the work within today’s fight for liberation in ‘Canada.’
Join us for this free event as we discuss the history and future of queer liberation on Turtle Island and beyond! (more info in the comments)
This event sponsored and supported by St. John’s Pride, Palestine Action YYT, MUN Students’ Union, MUN Dept. of Gender Studies, Downtown Comics & ig/@aducknameddad !
And check out the separate event page for No Pride In Genocide! happening on Wednesday Oct. 16 at Eastern Edge Gallery!
